Rian Johnson selaku sutradara dari Star Wars: The Last Jedi tidak tahu mengapa Star Wars selalu kehilangan sutradara mereka diawal produksi atau di pertengahan produksi.
Contoh kasus nya berada di Force Awaken dimana awalnya adalah sutradara awalnya Trevorrow dipecat dipertengahan film dan digantikan oleh J.J Abrams.
“I can’t speak to the experience that anyone else has had. I would caution that other people’s sets are like other people’s marriages. You think you know what’s going on with them, but the only thing that’s absolutely true is that you’re wrong. I can only speak to my experience, which was an absolute dream from top to bottom, beginning to end. From Kathy [Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy] to Bob Iger to J.J. [Abrams] to all the craftsmen.”
Masih banyak lagi kasus seperti Christopher Miller yang ditarik di tengah produksi Solo: A Star Wars Story lalu ada juga David Benioff dan D.B.Weiss pembuat Game of Throne yang mengundurkan diri sebelum memasuki masa produksi.
Kathleen Kennedy Presiden dari Lucasfilm mengatakan bahwa hal ini sering terjadi dan berujung pada franchise ini yang sangat sulit untuk dibangun, khususnya jika orang tersebeut (sutradara) tidak pernah berurusan dengan film sejenis sebelumnya.
